13 May 2022 (Friday) - The ESR

I get so cross when people are disparaging about the ESR, Yes – it is a very old test. Yes - it is incredibly non-specific. But I remember a conversation with a GP who felt the ESR was a wonderful test. He told me that he spends all day presented with people who whinge that they feel ill. Some are truly ill. Some are looking for a sick note. He told me he “has ten minutes to tell the ill from the workshy”. For him the ESR was a godsend. If it was raised then he knew he had to investigate further. If not raised then he could “tell them to bugger off with a clear conscience
Here's someone else singing the praises of a much maligned test
