This
piccie appeared on the Facebook Hematology Interest group, and (like every
picture on that group) there were almost as many theories presented about
the piccie as there were people to present them.
However
this is Strongyloides stercoralis, a threadworm that can get into people from
the skin and settle in the GI tract. When immunocompromised it can become a
hyper-infection and spread to other parts of the body.
Would I
recognise it as Strongyloides stercoralis? I doubt it. But would I recognise
that it shouldn’t he there? I certainly hope so.
