There
is a theory that iron therapy can cause inflammations which inhibit iron
uptake. Supplementing the iron therapy with vitamin E
can reduce the inflammation and enhance the iron uptake.
However
too much vitamin E can cause coagulopathy by inhibiting vitamin K-derived
coagulation factor synthesis. This can cause serious bleeding events such as
gastrointestinal bleeding and intracranial hemorrhage.
