I flipped through Facebook as I scoffed my brekkie this morning I saw some
photos of one of the American haematology groups. There was a particularly
odd-looking neutrophil and among the myriad of comments were all sorts of
diagnoses ranging from pneumonia to piles (note to self – be very wary of
comments on such posts!). however one chap had commented “TAM”.
I’d
never heard of that, so I looked it up,
Transient abnormal myelopoiesis (TAM) is seen in infants with trisomy 21 (Down syndrome). I knew people with Down syndrome were prone to myeloid problems, but this was new to me…
