I got the final report on digital morphology 2102 DM today. Some time ago I was presented with the case:
"You
are asked to review a blood film from a sick young patient in the Emergency
Department ..."
There was:
Macrocytes Nucleated red cells Polychromasia Spherocytes Stomatocytes target cells
|
dysplastic/vacuolated neutrophils Granulated lymphocytes ?myelocytes Smear cells
|
large platelets Reduced platelet count
|
The film was from a patient with sepsis. I spotted the salient features, but was more taken with the nucleated red cells and reduced platelet count. As always it would help if we were given more information.
