15 October 2018 (Monday) - THIS IS !!!!

This case appeared on the Facebook “Haematology Interest Group” this morning. I’d say it was a haemoglobinopathy of some sort. But an abnormal haemoglobin, a thalassaemia, a compound haemoglobinopathy? You can’t tell from just a blood film.
HPLC data, family background, ethnic origin… So many people were posting a definitive diagnosis on the strength of having seen target cells.

For all that I like the Facebook “Haematology Interest Group” there is a lot of “look at this – what do you think?”, not very much “this is a case of…” and a lot of “THIS IS X EVEN THOUGH I’VE ONLY EVER SEEN IT ON THE INTERNET”.

I continue to follow the group, taking a *lot* of what I read with a pinch of salt.
