A
series of questions was posed in the Facebook Medical Laboratory Scientists
group today:
Guys, I have a
questions which can be answerable by true or false..
1. An electronic
x-match can performed if patient has a history of previous of antibody but
their current antibody screen is negative.
2. The remote data
ABO/Rh does not count as the as the second sample. An ABO/Rh retype must be
performed in MEDITECH before units can be selected for X-match.
3.If there is no
previous record, as second specimen has to be drawn at different time before a
patient is eligible for electronic x-matches.
4.eXM will allow a
patient with a warm autoantibody to receive units that are antigen typed.
5.A serologic xmatch
must be performed when MEDITECH is down and the patient has negative ABS and
history of an antibody.
6. The patient's
sample must be retrieved and scanned to perform electronic or serologic
xmatches for additional units.
You
can follow the argument which ensued by
clicking here. Basically there were as many opinions offered as there were
people to offer them. It is often worth bearing in mind that many of the
discussion forums I use for CPD purposes are often opinion and not definitive
I
quite liked the reply “Are we doing your
homework here”…
