11 April 2017 (Tuesday) - Fresh *Thawed* Plasma

Here’s an interesting article I read on the British Society of Haematology’s Facebook page. The gist of it is that it takes a long time to thaw fresh frozen plasma; why not keep the stuff already thawed? There have been a few studies which show the stuff is good for over a week post-thawing. I’ve always been under the impression it is good for one day. If it lasts for a week then maybe keep the stuff thawed…

Of course this pre-supposes you are going to use the stuff. In my last place of employment we would often go for over a week between calls for FFP. Maybe this might be good for the trauma centres.
I’ve been told I will be transferred to one in the not-too-distant future…
