The nice people at UKAS sent
their update today. I read it, but can’t help but find myself thinking “what
was that all about”? Back when I was a lad, labs didn’t have SOPs and there
certainly wasn’t anyone setting a national standard. Having these improved
matters no end… but the impetus wasn’t maintained.
Today we have a regulatory framework in which
no-one say “this is how you will do a blood count”. Instead we have “this
is how you will document that you got the blood count wrong”.
Perhaps the emphasis is in the wrong place. Am
I the only one who feels this way? Or perhaps it really is time I should
retire?
