The nice
people at Transfusion News sent
their update today…
The first
article caught my eye. One thing I’ve noticed over the last few years is just
how little blood is transfused nowadays. Today I prepared blood for a patient
whose haemoglobin was 60. I prepared two units. Back in the day I would have
been asked to prepare at least four.
Is such
restrictive blood use for the best? Presumably research as shown that it is?
However now it seems that this might
not be the case.
Perhaps we
had it right back in the day?
