The
ESR is a test which is widely looked down upon. I’ve always said it is a
wonderful test. If it is normal, then must the same can be said of any normal
result; it tells nothing. But if it is raised then the patient is ill. Totally
non-specific, but in the GP setting this is what the doctor wants. With a
raised ESR we have proof of disease.
