above photo (and others) appeared in a lab-related Facebook group I follow. The
spiel with it went:
“This was the first diff I did this morning.
Patient: new born.... XT-4000 gave a white count of 200+. Hgb 9.4. This is what
I see...
Mom is Rh negative
and baby DAT pos. Differential was 13 neuts... 1 lymph ....4 eos .... 5 monos
total cells counted to get the diff was 688. The balance of the cells were
called NRBC”
Once
I wasn’t too bad with baby blood. Since moving base five years ago I rarely see
baby blood any more…it’s a skill I’ve lost.
