The IBMS
sent their newsletter today. You can see it by
clicking here. A couple of weeks ago I went in to the IBMSwebsite where I
found an option to update my interests and it said that the mailings I get
would be more tailored to my personal preferences..This one
didn’t seem very tailored. In fact it seemed incredibly COVID-19 obsessed.
Mind you
there was a bit about a consultation on a proposal to enable biomedical
scientists to supply and administer medicine to patients.
The IBMS
was all for it…
I see this
as yet another example of why I should retire. Perhaps I am an old reactionary
who is completely out of touch with reality, but I think this is a terrible
idea. Biomedical scientists have a clearly defined role. Do we *really*
need to be getting involved in something which for yeas we have avoided like
the plague? I can’t help but think this is a thinly veiled ruse to try to
reduce the workload of (admittedly very busy) doctors. If this is true
then their role should be addressed and more doctors recruited. We’ve already
got enough to do without taking on jobs for which we are not qualified and not
trained.
Or perhaps
I am wrong… It has been known to happen…
