3 March 2020 (Tuesday) - NEQAS Parasitology

I finally got round to tracking down the consensus results of the most recent parasitology NEQAS exercise…

2001 PA1

I said:

P. falciparum

Consensus:

P. falciparum

“…this striking film came from a Malawian child with neurological symptoms.
As expected, an overwhelming majority of those participants who did return results correctly reported the heavy (14%) parasitaemia with Plasmodium falciparum malaria”

I think I got that right…

2001 PA2

I said:

??? none seen
Consensus:

None seen

This thick film, from the blood of a patient having ‘investigation for thrombocytopenia’, did not contain any parasites

I think I did OK on these…
