28 February 2022 (Monday) - BTLP-TACT Excercise

Time for another BTLP-TACT exercise…
I was presented with two cases from the out-patients department.

51855 – a sixty-one year-old chap with iron deficiency anaemia (and previous transfusions) requiring group & save.He grouped as B Rh(D) Positive with a negative antibody screen

34060 – a thirty-four year-old chap requiring two units of irradiated blood within two hours.
He grouped as A Rh(D) Negative also with a negative antibody screen
I selected two A Rh(D) Negative K-negative irradiated units 

I got the green light, which is always something of a relief.

The nice people at the “Transfusion Evidence Alert” sent their update today. As always there was far too much to take in at one go, but it only comes out monthly…
The first article on transfusion thresholds was interesting… when should you give a transfusion… opinion varies so much, and has done so over the years…
