I’ve only done six
BTLP-TACT exercises this month, and I’m getting snarky emails about not meeting
performance targets. Mind you I did get one of those six wrong (allegedly!)
so here goes…
I was presented with
one case – an eighty-five year-old chap in A&E with a fractured femur
needing two units of blood.
He grouped as A Rh(D)
Positive with a negative antibody screen. I selected two units of A Rh(D) Positive
blood
I got it right…

cynical about the entire concept of UKAS…
Which is exactly why I
need to keep up with what they are up to. No matter what I think of them, I
have to follow their instructions so it is as well that I keep abreast of what
tey are saying.
22 August 2025 (Friday) - Under the Cover
One of the blood grouping
analysers was being troublesome today. As luck would have it, a colleague used
to work for the firm that makes the devices. With te cover off he spent ten
minutes taking me through the intricacies of the machine’s insides.
I learned quite a bit,
and as I always say a day when you learn nothing is a day wasted.
21 August 2025 (Thursday) - ASH Update
The nice people at ASH
sent their update today. They’ve been sending them for some time, but there’s
no denying that they go right over my head. But then, a lot of the journals do
that. If I stick at them and read around and find out, then (just maybe)
something might stick in my head.
After all, isn’t that
what CPD is all about?
