The
treatment of choice for patients with thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP)
is plasma exchange.
Although fresh frozen plasma infusion might be of limited impact, it is not the
definitive treatment since it does not help removing the autontibodies from
circulation.
Platelets are thought to be contraindicated in TTP because of the theoretical
possibility of worsening the TTP.
Gamma globulin is ineffective in increasing the platelet count in TTP.
Caplacizimab is an adjunct to PE but cannot replace it.”
