Time for another BTLP-TACT exercise. I was presented with one case – a twenty-six-year-old chap with a GI bleed needing four units of blood within two hours.
He grouped
as O Rh(D) Positive, but a rather weak Rh(D) Positive.
Should I
have called it indeterminate? No. It was positive; just weak. The antibody
screen was negative.
I took no
chances and selected four units of O Rh(D) Negative (K-negative) blood
and pressed the “submit” button expecting failure..
I got it right…
