An
interesting case appeared on the Facebook Hematology Interest group today. A
two year old Jordanian male who has been in Canada for one week presented to
the ED with extreme lethargy and jaundice.
The consultant’s comment was “Macrocytic anemia and features of hemolysis,
leukocytosis with left shift and monocytosis. Recommend testing for G6PD
deficiency disorder after resolution of acute hemolysis”
I’ve seen one case of G6PD deficiency, and that
was ages ago. It’s a rather obscure condition.
