to make you think. (Well, it made me
think)
It turns
out that what we all thought was P.Ovale (malaria)
is actually two different unrelated species of malaria.
I’d heard
speculation about this before. I’m left wondering about all these arguments
over the years “ovale!!!” “vivax!!!” “malarae!!!”
when there is increasing evidence that you
can’t tell them apart without using all sorts of markers. And bearing in mind
the treatment is much the same, surely it is enough to say “malaria”, and err on the side of caution
and treat as P.falciparum ?
