Public Comment Period for Guidelines on Venous Thromboembolism The American Society of Hematology (ASH) is seeking comments on draft recommendations for guidelines for venous thromboembolism (VTE): Pediatric VTE Prevention of VTE in nonsurgical patients The public comment period is July 24 – August 25. FDA Approves First New Sickle Cell Treatment in Nearly 20 Years The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved oral L-glutamine powder for the treatment of sickle cell disease, finding that it significantly reduces associated complications. CMS Proposes Cuts to 340B Reimbursement The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is considering reducing how much it pays hospitals for drugs purchased through its 340B program to cut out-of-pocket costs for Medicare patients. Cancer Deaths Occur More in Rural America According to CDC Report A new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report shows that the cancer mortality rate is higher in rural regions and is likely related to a lack of preventive medicine options.
