20 March 2017 (Monday) - Transfusions in Sickle Cell Disease



This morning the British Society of Haematology sent me the updated guidelines for red cell transfusions in cases of sickle cell anaemia.
Unlike many other conditions, patients with sickle cell might require more than just a “top-up”; sometimes a complete exchange might be on the cards. The article made for interesting reading.
However the thing which struck me most was the guideline was dated last November. I received it today…
