13 April 2021 (Tuesday) - 2102 DM

I got the final report on digital morphology  2102 DM today. Some time ago I was presented with the case:

"You are asked to review a blood film from a sick young patient in the Emergency Department ..."

There was:

Macrocytes

Nucleated red cells

Polychromasia

Spherocytes

Stomatocytes

target cells

dysplastic/vacuolated neutrophils

Granulated lymphocytes

?myelocytes

Smear cells

large platelets

Reduced platelet count

The film was from a patient with sepsis. I spotted the salient features, but was more taken with the nucleated red cells and reduced platelet count. As always it would help if we were given more information.

There was talk (in the report) of an Instagram account to follow. You can follow it by clicking here. Will I? Yet another social media thing to do…
