4 November 2020 (Wednesday) - Plasma Cells

I have always maintained that if you can’t explain something in plain English then you don’t understand that something. Many years ago I was at a little tutorial when a fellow trainee was trying to use all sorts of words (that she didn’t understand) to describe the “pleomorphic reticulum” (!) of plasma cells.
Once the consultant haematologist had stopped smirking, he told us that a plasma cell looks like “a fried egg which is exactly the wrong colour”. And they do.

Apologies for the poor quality picture – I really need to get a USB camera rather than brandishing my phone at the microscope’s eyepiece.

Here’s a little synopsis of plasma cell disorders.
